About Lama

Inspiration and Origins

Lama Trust was inspired by the charitable spirit of S. Lalitha, fondly known as "Lama," who passed away at the age of 67. Born into a wealthy and philanthropic family, Lalitha was deeply compassionate and generous towards the poor and underprivileged
from a young age. After Lalitha's passing, her husband V. Shunmugavelu founded the Lama Trust to continue her legacy of charitable work in her memory. The trust is dedicated to serving the poor and marginalized communities in the region.

Lama's Early Life and Values

Lama, whose birth name was Lalitha, was born in 1947 in Bodinayakanur, Tamil Nadu. She was the fourth child of Narayana Raj and Rajammal, a wealthy and philanthropic family. From a young age, Lama displayed a strong sense of empathy and a desire to help those in need.
Even as a child, Lama would regularly donate school supplies, books, and food to her less fortunate classmates. She derived her charitable spirit from her father, who was known for his broad-minded philanthropy in the local community.

Marriage and Life Challenges

Lama married V. Shunmugavelu, a government employee from a humble background, in 1971. While the couple enjoyed a few years of happiness, they faced the heartbreak of not being able to have children. This life-changing
event led Lama to embrace her nieces and nephews as her own, showering them with love and affection. She found great joy in spending time with the children of her brothers and sisters.

Spiritual Journey and Legacy

Lama's faith journey took an important turn when her husband fell seriously ill. During this challenging period, Lama found solace and strength in Christianity, crediting her husband's recovery to the power of prayer and her newfound faith in Jesus Christ. Lama remained deeply devoted to her Christian beliefs while continuing to respect her Hindu roots. She made significant contributions to both the local church and Hindu temple,
demonstrating her inclusive and compassionate spirit. Tragically, Lama's own health declined in her later years, as she battled an autoimmune disease. However, she remained steadfast in her desire to leave the world without causing any inconvenience to her loved ones. Lama passed away in 2015 at the age of 67, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and service to others.
